A Little Bit of Prairie Goodness (Thrifted Plaid Pillow Shams)
While I was sick, I spent a whole truckload of time on this couch. I've kind of adopted it as "my" couch. It's nice and wide and so I site sideways so I can look out the window, do my stitching, and try not to notice how much isn't getting done. I'm really terrible at being sick, if you must know. As soon as I get past the "really dying" part and into the "still sick but not comatose" part, I tend to spend a lot of time gnashing my teeth and wailing at my inability to function. The stitchery helps, but only somewhat.
From time to time I can't take it anymore and I get restless and go work on something. At one point I had Mr. Magpie bring me my laptop and proceeded to break my blog. Oops. It's mostly patched together now. I probably should have stuck to the crochet while my brain was offline.
So, yep, this is where I spent most of a couple of weeks trying unsuccessfully not to overdo it. Do you notice anything different? (Here's what it looked like before if you want to check.) I'll have you know I was going to just take a picture as is, but Baby Girl insisted that we fluff out the ruffles and arrange things just so. See?
Who knew a three year old could have such opinions about such things! Especially since she immediately followed that by taking off half her clothes and putting a clothes basket on her head. It's a mystery!
So, couple of weeks ago we had a couple of sunny days (so precious here in the Pacific Northwest) and I celebrated by putting some brighter pillows on the bed in my room. The Euros I had in there were so drab and tired looking, I was just about to put them in the giveaway box, when I found these old shams in my closet. I got them at Goodwill (like everything else I own, I swear), a few years ago and I haven't used them.
I got them originally because they just looked so prairie cute to me with the blue plaid cotton fabric and those ginormous ruffles! I was too embarrassed to use them before, because even though I loved them, you have to admit they're a bit dated. But then I decided, you know what? So they're a bit dated. I don't care. I love them and they make me happy. So I put them on the couch, and I really love them. Not just because they make me smile, but because they make the couch so much more comfortable! It's a modern couch and very deep, which is great when you're napping or lounging, but a bit hard on the back when you're trying to sit upright. Even for me, a tall girl! My poor Mom can't sit on them at all! So the pillows definitely improve that.
We all enjoyed the sun while we had it. The cats were just basking. I made progress on my newest crochet project (more on that soon), and tried very hard to stay on the couch.
My Dad bought flowers for me and Baby Girl for Valentine's Day, isn't that sweet? Pink and purple cyclamens to cheer us up. They're still blooming on the windowsill, pretty enough that I almost don't mind the rain!
Meanwhile, I'm trying to clean up my office enough so I can get your opinion on the wall color vs. buffet color vs. table color. I'm so confused!! It's a huge mess in here, though. I may have to give up and just take pictures anyway (eek!). I went ahead and moved the buffet (shown in that last post) into place temporarily, and I'm really liking how it fits into the room. So hopefully you can help me figure out the whole color thang.
How about you? What have you been up to? Is Spring in full swing where you live, or are you still waiting for the warmer weather?
