Last week was my birthday. I love this time of year. Not just because it's my birthday, of course, but also because everything seems to be bursting forth outside. The big cherry tree on our street always blooms about now. It always seems like it's blooming just for me.
I've been continuing to fuss with the front room art wall above my new-to-me couch. This poor wall has been patched and re-patched so many times from all the various art wall attempts it's a wonder it doesn't just fall down. So many holes!! This last time I was absolutely, positively certain that I had it just right, and then the next day realized that the arrangement was way too high. And cluttered. And, well, I'm doing it over again.
Here it is, the bottom half moved down. Still working on the top half--painting frames, that sort of thing. I'm stuck on a color for one of the frames, so that might take awhile.
I had a particularly nice birthday this year. I was also delightfully surprised to receive birthday gifts! I wasn't expecting any, and yet they came along anyway. A lovely painting, done by the son of a friend. A locally found and polished hunk of agate, just the exact size to fit in my hand for a worry stone. Some sunshine-y fabric, just when I was wishing I had more cheer in my stash. And then, of course, the blooming tree. That one was Nature's doing, though. :-)
Oh yes, and there were cupcakes. I didn't get pictures of those. They didn't last long enough!
As a special treat I let myself work on an un-planned and un-queued quilt, a new thing with pretty colors in a palette I haven't worked with before. I am shamelessly copying a friend's genius. Good thing she doesn't mind!! I'll show you more as I get further along. This one is going to join the triple Irish chain on my bed, is the plan.
Meanwhile, Mr. Magpie got a wild hair and decided to finish our home office space, for realsies. I can't believe it!! I don't know what made him decide that, but I'm thrilled. There's been plastering, and wainscoting going up, and shelves being built. I think I'll be able to paint this weekend if I feel well enough.
I've turned 46, which means I'm getting close to 50. I'm proud of that! Once I've turned 50 then I really will be grown up, won't I? Except that I'll probably always still be 14 on the inside. Fourteen, awkward, and waiting for a chance to sneak away to a quiet corner with whatever book I'm reading at the moment. Some things never change. Right now I'm reading a combination supernatural romantic comedy murder mystery series that a friend recommended (You can see it here). It's quite fun. I've read one every day for the last three days. Now I'll have to request the rest on Interlibrary loan so it'll be awhile before I can get the last two!!
When's your birthday? Are there trees blooming where you are? And most importantly, have you read any good books lately?
