Guest Bathroom Demo
Over the last few days, we've been demoing our scary, 80's era guest bathroom, and we're finally done.
First, we peeled off the wallpaper. We tried a new trick of using fabric softener. What a great idea! The stuff practically slid off the walls.
Next, we ripped out the vanity and toilet. Total elapsed time, 2:07.
Remember I mentioned that shower stall?
Yeah, it's gone. Even my son got into the action. That blur you see is him swinging a mini sledgehammer. My boy loves the demo.
We also replaced the old 80's heat-lamp unit with a new fan/light unit.
And finally, we ripped out the old particle board subfloor. It was gross, too.
Of course, once we started pulling stuff out, we found all kind of fun (and by fun I mean headaches) little surprises left to us by the previous owner(s). Like, who put the water supply for the toilet on the side instead of in the back?
We have a crawlspace here, instead of the full basement like at the old place, so Mr. Magpie has said that he's not willing to go under the house to do the plumbing. I'm pretty adventurous, but I'm not ready to take that on (yet), so I'm going to have to hire a pro. I'm thinking I'll have them install the tub, too. Last time Gootz and I did it ourselves, and it wasn't the funnest experience.
What about you? Are you a DIY type or do you like to hire the pros?
