Recycled Shirtings

I think I mentioned that I had started a new quilt. I think I also mentioned that it was a rail fence quilt that I had re-acquired units started in 1986. As you might imagine, the units had a lot of calicoes.

I love the look of them, great fabrics. But I don't want to do the whole quilt in calico. So I'm adding some stripes and plaids with shirtings. Recycled shirtings! I've spent quite a bit of time at the bins this year (a local Goodwill warehouse that sells clothing by the pound) picking up 100% cotton clothing for using in quilts, and I have quite a collection of men's shirtings. They're a little fiddly to work with because the strips end up different sizes, but the fabrics are great. I'm pinning them up on what I now call the "non-design-wall", and I think it's working. Now I just have to make 150 more units....
