Pink Summer Shams
Last winter I had a cute red and white duvet cover and shams on my bed for the holidays. It was festive, and I liked it. But come summer when the duvet had to come off, I didn't have anything to replace it. For a few months we just had a motley assortment of throws. But then my Mom gave me this white mattelasse spread that she didn't want anymore.
It just happened to fit my bed as a coverlet, which is what I had wanted, and the white really "summerized" the room. But unfortunately the room is pretty bland--I haven't had a chance to paint it since we moved in, and it's just blah. By August I was craving a punch of color.
Enter the pink shams.
I got some clearance fabric at the local shop and whipped these up. I had been thinking ruffles, but I didn't have enough fabric, so I created this cute tie closure instead. That little bit of pink peeking out was just what I needed to give the room some life.
I took lots of pictures when I made them, so I'll post the specific how to's in a day or two. Meanwhile, though, I'm already scouting for some new fabric for fall. Clearance rack, here I come!
P.S. No, I still haven't decided what to do with the bed, if anything. It's growing on me. Plus, even though I didn't pay much for it, someone paid a fortune for it new, and I find that a little intimidating. The best I have so far is to do the rest of the room up and then see how I feel about it. Though at this precise moment, some kind of cottage green wash with toile painting sounds good.
